In the first round of the tennis tournament in Doha, Kiki Bertens performance was wonderful.
After the 27-year-old Westlandse lost the first set 6-0 to Camila Giorgi, she pulled the game to him. Bertens proved to be too strong for the Italian with 7-6 and 6-4.
The first set lost Bertens, the number eight of the world, in a little over 20 minutes. In the second, she won her first game at 0-1, only to use her fifth set point in the tiebreak.
In the deciding company, she led 3-0, followed by 3-4 behind, but she used her second match point at 5-4.
For Bertens it was her first performance since she won the St. Petersburg tournament more than a week ago. In Russia, she beat the Croatian Donna Vekic in the final.
