Amsterdam Fashion Week focuses on timeless clothing

Amsterdam will again be dominated by the latest fashion trends in the coming days. During Amsterdam Fashion Week, designers and fashion brands show their latest creations in various places in the city. Nowadays it is more and more about timeless clothing.

“It’s not about what’s going on tomorrow or next year. It’s about the now,” said Amsterdam Fashion Week initiator, Danie Bles. “You now also see many more collections that run through with clothing that you can wear all year round, so to speak, so you can create a basic wardrobe.”

A far-from-your-bed show is the Fashion Week also less and less, according to Bles. There are no longer catwalks full of strange and artistic creations. “It must be immediately portable for consumers,” says Bles.

The bi-annual Fashion Week starts on Thursday in the Museum Quarter when Ronald van der Kemp gives a show in the Moco Museum.

Events are also taking place in the Nieuwe Kerk, Weesperzijde and Museumplein, among others. Bles would prefer to take Fashion Week to many more places in Amsterdam. “That would really be my dream. The Houthavens, Albert Cuyp or in Noord for example. Locations can add a lot.”
