A website that can ‘check’ for potential cheating by seeing if and when WhatsApp users were online at the same time blames the settings of the messaging service itself.
The unnamed service is abusing a standard feature in WhatsApp that users cannot disable, Vice reports. On WhatsApp, other users can always see if someone is currently online; that’s at the top of the chat below the name.
The ‘cheater check’ abuses that function to keep track of times when WhatsApp accounts are online. Users pass on two numbers to the service, which holds a record of when both numbers were online for a fee. The app marks corresponding times and shows how long both songs were online simultaneously.
