Europeans and the USA begin recent discussions on the nuclear dispute.
Does the nuclear deal with Iran still have a future? Germany, France and Great Britain want to re-coordinate this and the new US Secretary of State.
In the nuclear dispute with Iran, Germany, France and Great Britain, discuss how to proceed with the USA this Thursday. Foreign Minister Heiko Maas will travel to Paris to meet his French and British counterparts Jean-Yves Le Drian and Dominic Raab. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will then be switched on via video.
The nuclear dispute had recently intensified again significantly. Iran has approached the enhanced US organization under President Joe Biden to lift intense financial and international embargoes against the country. Otherwise, Tehran’s leadership wants to restrict the access of inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency to the nuclear facilities in the country. This would further weaken the agreement concluded in 2015 to prevent an Iranian atomic bomb.
After the USA withdrew from the laboriously negotiated deal, Iran has gradually ignored all technical requirements since May 2019. Among other things, the country has started with higher uranium enrichment and uranium metal production, is now working with faster centrifuges and is storing far more uranium than permitted in the nuclear deal.
