Japan orders half a billion corona vaccines in hopes of allowing Games to continue.

Japan has ordered 521 million corona vaccines. With this investment, the country with 126.5 million inhabitants hopes that the Olympic Games can continue next summer.

Japan has ordered vaccines from five different companies to spread opportunities. Not all vaccines now produced by different countries may also work well enough.

“The companies will likely be able to produce a vaccine between the end of this year and March next year,” cabinet secretary Yoshihide Suga told Reuters news agency. “At all costs, we want the Olympic Games to continue in 2021.”

Japan has signed contracts with pharmaceutical companies domestically, the United States and Great Britain. “We must avoid having nothing at all,” said Tomoya Saito, head of the National Institute of Public Health.
