Pegula prevents tennis final Wozniacki – Serena Williams

The American tennis star Jessica Pegula has kept Caroline Wozniacki out of the final at the WTA tournament in Auckland. The world’s number 82 defeated the Danish, who is saying goodbye to the Australian Open later this month, in three sets: 3-6 6-4 6-0. Pegula thus prevented a final between the girlfriends Wozniacki and Serena Williams, who are in the doubles final together.

In the quarterfinals, Wozniacki had put an end to the victory series of the German Julia Görges, who had been the best in Auckland for the past two years. The former number 1 in the world, winner of the Australian Open in 2018, is in the final weeks of the WTA Tour. The 29-year-old Danish would like to crown that with a final place in New Zealand, but despite loud encouragement from the public, she had to beat Pegula.

The 25-year-old American meets her 13-year-old fellow countryman Serena Williams in the final.
